HCSO: Man fatally shoots wife, turns gun on 10-year-old son

SPRING, Texas – A man is in custody after he fatally shot his wife and wounded his 10-year old step-son Saturday, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident happened around 5 p.m. Saturday at a home on Lockridge Drive between Cotter Drive and Silverton Street, authorities said.

Deputies were called out to the scene by the husband, Jeffrey Fontenot who “reported that he had shot his wife (Yashica Fontenot) and was asking for units to come to the location,” according to HCSO Sgt. Jason Brown.

On arrival, deputies said they found a woman inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

According to deputies, they also found the couple’s 10-year-old son barricaded inside his room. Brown said Fontenot also turned the gun on the boy and fired.

“The child was slightly wounded by a graze wound to his arm but otherwise unharmed,” said Brown.

Brown said Fontenot was taken into custody without incident and admitted to shooting and killing his wife. He told authorities that he became angry and frustrated with her, Brown said. Fontenot also admitted to shooting at his step-son, authorities said.

Fontenot was charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

A judge set bond for Fontenot at $200,000.

A second person believed to be the victim’s loved one was detained at the scene for crossing the yellow caution tape. He is expected to be charged with interfering, authoriites said.
